Strange Issue with Standard & Itemized

Turbotax desktop

My itemized deductions amount is above the $25100 deduction but below the $26450 (over 65). And the standard + charitable is definitely higher...

By default the program ends up choosing the itemized in line 12a (1040). I can get it to take the standard IF I check the "take the standard deduction even if less than itemized deductions" in the Info Wks...

That seems like it would be totally unnecessary.

AND it is critical to itemize all my deductions in TT as it makes a big difference in my state taxes.... So hopefully even if I take the standard deduction, the Sched A is properly handled for state (we'll see)

So, am I doing something wrong here OR is TT just failing to properly figure out the better choice of (correct over 65) standard vs itemized? Even worse, it really should choose standard + charitable over the itemized in any case. And it doesn't really give me any place to force this decision (other than maybe with Info Wks)

The program will choose one itemized in the deductions section. Leave the program alone. Once the program gets to the review, it figures out the standard plus charity is better and will do that for federal while carrying the rest to your state for itemizing.
