Question

Texas Teacher Retirement and IRA contributions

Turbo Tax is not allowing me to deduct contributions to an IRA, even though I meet MAGI requirements.   It's saying that because the school district checked retirement plan in box 13 on the W2 that I have a retirement plan and can't contribute.   I only have the TRS deduction, which of course is in lieu of Social Security.

Something is wrong here.  No, I don't have a 403(b).

Any ideas?

TRS is a pension plan, Box 13 is checked correctly. Check to see if you can make any deductible traditional IRA contributions, refer to the table below from 2021 Publication 590-A page 13.
