Was this your personal car--used for personal use? Sorry, there is nothing to enter on your tax return about that.

There is no casualty loss on your federal return if a non business vehicle but your state might have a different treatment. But any loss would be reduced by any insurance payment. It doesn’t matter that you used the money for another car.
