They want me to upgrade to deluxe due to having an HSA or MSA and I had neither...

You can use the free edition of TurboTax. However, TurboTax Free Edition is intended for taxpayers with very simple returns that can fit on the new 1040 form without any schedules.

If you feel your situation meets the requirements for TurboTax Free Edition, you can use the Clear and Start Over feature to downgrade as long as you have not submitted payment, deducted the TurboTax fee from your refund, or registered.
