Third Stimulus check

Hey,

I filed my 2020 taxes and it's still being processed by the IRS. However, I updated my bank account information and I had to claim my second stimulus check through the recovery rebate credit on my 2020 taxes. My question is since I filed my taxes and updated my new bank account information why does it say my old bank account on the IRS to receive my third stimulus payment? Also, I moved to another state so they can't send me a check if I no longer live there.

Shouldn't my new bank account information show up in the IRS system? If, they are able to pull up information from here.

Sorry for the long post I'm just worried because I never received a paper check for my second payment and I called my old bank and they said they sent it back to the IRS.

The third round of Economic Impact Payments (EIP3) will be based on the taxpayer's latest processed tax return from either 2020 or 2019. If the IRS has received and processed a taxpayer's 2020 return, the agency will instead make the calculation based on that return and use the bank information on your latest return. Since your return is still being processed, then the IRS will use the last return filed (2019) for your bank account data. If your return processes before your return before your EIP3 is processed, then your information should be correct. If not, the IRS has released the guidelines as listed below.

Per the IRS, if your payment can’t be delivered to you for any reason, it will be returned to the IRS. To get your payment reissued:

  • Set up direct deposit with Get My Payment. After your payment is returned to the IRS, your payment status will update to “Need More Information.” You can then choose direct deposit to a:

    • Bank account
    • Prepaid debit card (must be reloadable; contact the card issuer for information)
    • Alternative financial products that have a routing and account number associated with them

  • Update your address with the IRS. The easiest way is to file your 2020 tax return with your current address, if you haven’t already done so. Once we receive your current address, we will reissue your payment.

For other ways to update your address with the IRS, see How do I notify the IRS my address has changed?
