Both my husband and I are self-employed and are NOT covered by an employer plan; however, TT is saying that to deduct a contribution, you can have a MAGI over a certain amount while being covered by a retirement plan at work. Is there something wrong with TT?

Do you have an entry on line 16 Self-employed SEP, SIMPLE, and qualified plans of Schedule 1? If yes, then you are considered to have a retirement plan at work.

The traditional IRA deduction may be limited if you or your spouse is covered by a retirement plan at work and your income exceeds certain levels. Please see IRA deduction limits for details.
