I traveled by air for disaster relief work.....I used Southwest Air points. Can I deduct value of points used?

If you had purchased a ticket to travel for charity work for a qualified organization, you could deduct the cost of the ticket price you paid.

Since you used points to travel for your charity work, however, this is considered a gift from the airline to the charity and not personally deductible by you.

Thank you. IRS's logic is not very sound....but a learning lesson for me. I will pay for future airline tickets for disaster relief assignments and reserve my rewards for pleasure travel. Thanks again.
