TurboTax will tell you the amount of medical expenses you need to be eligible for a deduction.
It my look like you should be getting Itemized deductions based on the raw numbers, but after crunching the numbers it may not be the best choice for you.
Here are some of the limitations to Itemized deductions
Medical expenses Limit: You can only deduct the amount of your medical and dental expenses that is more than 7.5% of your AGI.
You apparently have a different version of TurboTax than I do. When I get to Medical there is no down arrow key. Besides that, I understand about the threshold for medical deductions. But it appears that TurboTax has already made the decision that standard deduction is best and won't let me add additional expenses. In past years I have been able to add expenses as I find them. I could come back to the medical expenses often and update at will. I did go to the forms section and found the medical expense worksheet. I was able to add the additional expenses in the worksheet. I'm hoping that it processed properly. It appears that TurboTax has an error in its Step-by-step section of the program not allowing updates to expenses.
Select Online, check for updates. You should be able to come back and update as desired - that has not changed on our side. You have forms mode which means desktop version. Since you are not able to update expenses, you should check for program updates.
The medical worksheet in forms mode is also fine. You can see your worksheet and the Sch A to know where you stand.
After the software update, return to federal deductions and credits, scroll down to medical and update. If this still does not work, check for software updates again. Sometimes there are quite a few updates to be made.
