Turbo tax is telling me the standard deduction for Arizona state income tax is $5431. Shouldn't the standard deduction be $29,200? Why the discrepancy?

    Were you a full-year or part-year resident of Arizona in 2024?

    29,200 is the federal Standard Deduction for Joint.  I don’t know the states but they are probably a lot less than federal.  My California Standard Deduction is around 5,000 too.

    Are you a dependent on someone else's return?   Or did you elect to itemize deductions even though they are less than the standard deduction.    The 2024 Arizona standard deduction amounts are:

    • $ 14,600 for a single taxpayer or a married taxpayer filing a separate return;
    • $ 29,200 for a married couple filing a joint return; and
    • $ 21,900 for individuals filing a head of household return.
