TurboTax isn't helpful at all with EV Credit process for form 8936!

Had I known that this year would have been so difficult and frustrating with getting my tax credit forms done for my new Tesla purchase, I would have NOT used Turbotax this year. Why isn't their form working the way it should? When I attempt to check the applicable boxes, or manually fill in values it won't accept my inputs.

The IRS works on the most frequent forms first and works down to the less common forms. Yours is not so common. Our software can't be finalized until the IRS finalizes the form. See Form availability

Thank you for that explanation, it’s helpful. When I look at the status of the tax form I need for completing my TurboTax, I see that there’s a green checkmark for both columns. So, the government has approved the form, apparently. How long does it take TurboTax to incorporate it into the product so that I can finish and file my taxes electronically?

@Bighouse1 Have you updated your TurboTax software for tax year 2024 to the latest release?

Click on Online at the top of the desktop program screen.

Click on Check for Updates.

Are you using the TurboTax desktop editions for Windows? If so, try this -

Save your tax return. Close the TurboTax program.

Right click on the TurboTax icon

Click on Run as administrator

Start the TurboTax program again

For an energy-efficient vehicle tax credit

Click on Federal Taxes (Personal using Home & Business)
Click on Deductions and Credits
Click on I'll choose what I work on (if shown)
Scroll down to Cars and Other Things You Own
On Energy-Efficient Vehicles, click the start or update button
On Energy-Efficient Vehicle Charging Station, click the start or update button

Or enter energy efficient vehicle in the Search box located in the upper right of the program screen. Click on Jump to energy efficient vehicle
