Unable to uncheck "earned income while in prison"

In this bulleted list I am unable to uncheck item #1 (earned income in prison). And I am unable to check #3. Why is this? I have not been to prison.

  • "BLANK" earned income while in prison, work release, or in a related halfway house.
  • The IRS notified us that we need Form 8862 to claim Child and Other Dependent Tax Credits.
  • None of these apply to us

    Go to:

    • Federal taxes>wages and income
    • Go to Wages and Salaries>select update
    • Edit your W2 and continue through until you reach a screen that says Let's Check for Uncommon Situations
    • Check to see if inmate or lived in a half-way house is checked.  if so, uncheck it.
    • Also go to the forms mode and select form W2. Check part V111 of the form to make sure that the box is unchecked also indicating that you were an inmate.....

As far as the Child Tax credit question, go to:

    • Federal Taxes>deductions and Credits
    • You and Your Family>Child and other dependent tax credit
    • Answer "no" to all the questions to disqualify you from the credit.
    • See if this works. You may need to go to the forms to delete form 8812 if it is listed.

Log completely out of your TurboTax account. Try deleting your browser's cookies. Please see this Turbo Tax FAQ regarding  How to delete cookies! And, log back in when you are done. If that doesn't work, try using a different browser all together.

Thanks for the response. Unfortunately I am using TurboTax software locally on my machine, not through a browser.

I was in a federal halfway house from Jan 1st, 2022 through May 15th, 2022. I missed checking the box saying I was in prison/halfway house. It was explained to me how to go back and fix that, which is why my federal return dropped due to not qualifying for earned income credit.

However, my efiling of state taxes for 2023 was rejected. I was told that you an agent would fix that by March 2nd, 2023. I hope this is true. I am unsure if I can find the paperwork showing my release from the halfway house, or how to get it to you to verify this.

I hope I get a response to this.

Thank you for your time and efforts to help me.

To clarify, what state is this and what is the reason for the rejection? Is there a specific error or error message you are receiving?

New Mexico State. I think it has to do with the time I spent in the federal halfway house and NM's earned income credit (from my understanding, because I spent less than 6 months in the halfway house, I qualify for NM's eic.)
