Under dependent section, question asking "paid for more than half of their living expenses and other support", is this asking if the parent paid or they paid for self?

There are two versions of the question, depending on which type of dependent it is.  Read the question very carefully.

 

For one type of dependent, the question is "Did the person provide more than half of their own support?"  For this question, if the person provided less than half their own support, it doesn't matter who else provided support or in what amount.

 

For the other type of dependent, the question is "Did you provide more than half the person's support."

Thank you for your response! However, the question did not start with "Did".  I put in quotes exactly what was shown. The questions as you posed them "did you or did they" would be easily understandable.  That's not how the question was phrased.

I'd have to dig through and find that exact screen.  If it is asking about the person, then it might be asking:

 

John "paid for more than half of their living expenses and other support" Yes/No.

 

Then that would be, did John pay for their own support.
