W-2 Employee 100% Remote Worker - Home Office Deduction

I have been using the TurboTax product exclusively for 15+ years to do my taxes.

In 2020, due to COVID 19, I was transitioned to Remote Worker status as my company shutdown all local offices.

I am now using a dedicated 10 x 8 office, detached from home on my property, as a home office.

I am using TurboTax Premier 2020.

I have gone through all of the questions about the home office use.  Turbo Tax stated that I qualified for a significant deduction for my use of the home office, for 9 months of the year.   The program, however, did not reflect this on the overall amount of Federal Income Tax refund/return.

I have hit my 10,000 limit of interest and loans deduction.

As long as you are paid as a W-2 employee the home office deductions are NOT deductible on the federal return ( from 2018 thru 2025)  not even covid related ones  ... and the only reason you are allowed to make any entries is if your state allows a deduction but most do not.

As of 2018, there is no more Federal tax deduction for unreimbursed employee expenses. It was eliminated with TCJA.
