We are assisting our grandchildren with thier collage tuition expenses. Can we deduct these expenses on our tax return?

    Only you can only claim education tax breaks for your grandchildren if you are claiming them as dependents.

    Unfortunately, the education tax credits and deductions are tied to the exemption of the student. If the student is a dependent of another person, the education tax break is due to the taxpayer that claims the student’s exemption. Otherwise the tax breaks can be claimed by the student.
