Question

We are taking the standard deduction, married with one dependent , we have a mortgage but I don't have the information on it, I didn't get a 1098. do I need it?

I am trying o finish up taxes, I am stuck on mortgage, we aren't going to get credits o anything else because we took the standard deduction.  I don't have the info, do I need to still enter the info?

If the total of all of your SCH A itemized deductions (which includes the mortgage interest) will not exceed your standard deduction, then it will have absolutely no impact on your tax liability. Therefore, there would be no need to enter the mortgage information at all.

Thank you, I just hope I can bypass this area somehow, it remembers stuff from last year.

You an always enter zero for the amount of interest paid, and just press on.
