We donated artwork to a local high school History Dept. Can this qualify as a charitable donation?

Yes.  Schools are considered as a qualified charitable organization to claim charitable deductions.

Per IRS publication 557,

Qualifying organizations include:

  • Nonprofit old-age homes,

  • Parent-teacher associations,

  • Charitable hospitals or other charitable organizations,

  • Alumni associations,

  • Schools,

  • Chapters of the Red Cross,

  • Boys' or Girls' Clubs, and

  • Churches.
