Question

We have a dependent care account that we put money into. This year Turbotax is saying that the employer gave us the money, why?

The money was deducted from our pay and then we would request reimbursement of our funds. But this year turbotax is showing it as money they employer gave us. But it was our pay.

That money was pre-tax money.    Did you enter an amount from box 10 of your W-2?   You cannot get the childcare credit again on the money you used from the pre-taxed money that was put into the dependent care account.

Maybe it is the way they are wording it, but we did not have this issue last year. We entered the amount from the w-2, but last year it did not show it as "employer provided". so for example, last year we had 16,000 that we paid for care and we had the dependent care FSA for 5000; but it still showed that we paid 16,000 in daycare. This year we paid 5,203 in daycare and we had the dependent care FSA for 4,286; but its only showing we paid 193 in care. Maybe they changed the wording in the explanation part but its appearing as though they are saying the employer gave us 4286.
