I'm contracting out of a remote town/village in Alaska.  The closest pharmacy in 500 miles and only accessible by plane. Some of my medicines can be shipped.  But not the refrigerated one. I will have to fly down there monthly of figured out a way a family member can mail it safely from Texas. Is the airfare deductible in this circumstance? 1

Yes, based on the information you provided, the travel expenses are deductible as an itemized deduction. The expenses can be deducted on Schedule A, but only the part of your medical expenses that exceed 7.5% of your adjusted gross income (AGI).

Per IRS Publication 502, "you can include in medical expenses amounts paid for transportation primarily for, and essential to, medical care." This includes bus, taxi, train, or plane fares.
