Question

What does "Gain from Property Held/Not Held for Investment" mean? I did not sell real estate only stocks. How should I answer?

I'm not quite sure where that section is, so let's start over again.

You should go to:

  1. Income
  2. I'll choose what I work on
  3. Scroll down to Investment Income
  4. Select Stocks, Mutual Funds ...
  5. Yes you did sell investments in 2019
  6. [ ? ] Did you get a 1099-B
    1. If Yes you can import the 1099-B or enter it yourself
    2. If No you can select Stocks

In either case, I do not see the quote you referenced above.  If you can share what screens you went through we may be able to find it.

I didn't sell real estate either, only stocks and mutual funds. Why did this "Gain from Property Not Held for Investment" flag come up?

I put "0" in the box, was that correct? When I did this my tax due didn't change, but I want to make sure it's correct.

I input information into TurboTax Self-Employed as follows:

  • Down the left side of the screen, click Federal.
  • Across the top of the screen, click on Income & expenses.
  • Under Your income and expenses, scroll down to Investment Income.
  • Click Show more.
  • Click Start / Revisit to the right of Stocks, Mutual Funds, Bonds, Others.

I was not able to replicate the screen you see.

Are these the steps that you followed?
