The sale of a home is reported on Form 8949, if it needs to be reported.  You would report the sale if one or more of the following are true:

  • You have a gain and do not qualify to exclude all of it,
  • You have a gain and choose not to exclude it, or
  • You received a Form 1099-S.

Here is a link with more information on reporting the sale of your home and the exclusions available. 

 

TurboTax will guide your through the entries under the "Income & Expenses" tab.  

  1. Scroll down to "Less Common Income"
  2. "Show more"
  3. "Start/revisit" "Sale of Home"
