Question

What if I own my home and don't have a mortgage? Why am I unable to complete my taxes? If keeps taking me back to "details from your1098".

The only thing I can think of is that is says they already have the amount I've paid in property taxes and not to enter it on this form so I'm really confused why if not allowing me to complete my taxes.

If you did not have a mortgage, you can still post your real estate taxes.

    1. On the tool bar, select Deductions & Credits.
    2. Scroll down to Your Home.
    3. Select Property (Real Estate) Taxes.
    4. The question will be Did you pay property or real estate taxes? ... Yes
    5. Post the property tax to Property taxes on your main home.

Also, if you had a 1098 for 2023 taxes  (like maybe you paid off your Mortgage during 2023)....if that happened in 2023, then an empty 1098 may have transferred into the software form last year, and you may need to go in and delete the empty 1098
