What if I was on a mortgage forbearance plan and didn’t get a 1098 form

If you actually paid mortgage interest during the year, you can still claim a deduction, if you itemize deductions.

To enter Mortgage Interest without a Form 1098, once you open TurboTax Online:

1. Select Federal in the left pane
2. Select Deductions & Credits in the top banner
3. Scroll down to Your Home
4. Select Show more, then select Start to the right of Mortgage Interest & Refinancing
5. Answer the interview questions appropriately
6. To enter the mortgage information yourself, select Change how I enter my form on the Let’s import your tax info page
7. Choose Type it myself on the next page
8. Continue with the interview

Remember to also include any related real estate taxes when you itemize deductions.
