Question

What if my employer contribution to my HSA is $0, but I personally contributed through deductions? Do I not get credit?

Yes, of course you get credit. When you contribute to your HSA through work, your employer reduces your taxable income by the amount of your HSA contribution.

Because this money has already been deducted from your taxable income, you can't deduct it again when you file your tax return.
