Question

When receiving the Adv Child Tax credit, I was given the amount as if ALL my kids were over 6, so I was shorted $50 per month. How do I get this fixed?

I should have received $250 for each of my older 4 kids, and $300 for my toddler, however, they gave me $250 for all my kids. So by my calculations, I should have gotten $300 more ($50 per month July - Dec).

You only enter the amount of the advanced child tax credit you received in 2021.  The program gives you Total Child Tax Credit you are eligible to receive and then reduces that amount by the advance you reported.

To enter, edit or delete the advance child tax credit

  • Click on Federal Taxes
  • Click on Deductions & Credits
  • Click on I'll choose what I work on (if shown)
  • Under You and Your Family
  • On Child and Other Dependent Tax Credit, click on the start or update button

Or enter child tax credit in the Search box located in the upper right of the program screen. Click on Jump to child credit
