If you claimed a deduction on your federal return for long term care insurance, the Virginia deduction for long-term health care insurance premiums is not allowed.

If you did not claim the long term care insurance premiums on your federal return, you can do the following to claim them on your Virginia state tax return.

    1. Go to your state return in TurboTax
    2. Look for the screen that says, "Here's the income that Virginia handles differently".
    3. Go to the Medical section,
    4.  Click on the Start/Revisit box next to "Long-Term Care Premiums Credit Carryover and Deduction" and continue
    5. Select "Yes" on the following screen for  Long-Term  Care Insurance Premiums Paid
    6. Enter your premiums in the box
