Did you enter any earned income from work that was at least $2,500?

The maximum child tax credit amount is $2000 per child.  The credit is divided into 2 different credits refundable and nonrefundable credit.  The maximum refundable credit is $1600.   To get that credit, you have to have income from work or earned income.  The credit is calculated based on the amount you earned above $2500 multiplied by 15%, up to the full $1600 per child.  If your earned income is too low you will not get the whole amount.  Also if your child turned 17 during 2023, he/she no longer qualifies for the $2000 and instead will only get a $500 credit for other dependents.
