Last night when i tried to complete my taxes i got a message saying i cant complete them until form 8889 is ready. I know this has to do with my HSA but i am not withdrawing any money from it. Can i continue without it?

No, wait on the Form 8889. You can check the links below for state and IRS form availability dates.

Form 8889 is used by the IRS to:

  • Report health savings account (HSA) contributions (including those made on your behalf and employer contributions),
  • Figure your HSA deduction,
  • Report distributions from HSAs, and
  • Figure amounts you must include in income and additional tax you may owe if you fail to be an eligible individual.
