Why does Turbo Tax prevent me from claiming my foreign tax credit when I did have foreign income from that same source.

Have you gone through the Foreign Tax Credit interview in TurboTax? Make sure you are following the instructions in the link below. You won't be able to take a credit or deduction for taxes paid (or accrued) on excluded foreign-earned income or housing. This is because excluded income and housing aren't taxed in the first place.

How Do I Claim the Foreign Tax Credit?

You may not have to complete the Foreign Tax Credit Computation Worksheet to claim the credit if your foreign taxes paid amount to less than $300. Look on Schedule 3, Line 1 to see if you are receiving the credit.
