Question

Why in the child tax credit 6419 reporting is more than what is actually reported? I put $6000 and when I'm done its show $6500, which is $500 more and wrong?

Also, that amount is wrong, because the IRS sent me a check in July for $750 instead of $1000, also that is only for 4of5 children. I never recieved any money for my 17, whom qualifes, I'm only getting  $305 in my federal return why? where is the remaining tax credit for my 4 kids 7-13 and also all $3000 for my 17 yr old ??/ HELp

It sounds like you need to do two things.  If I misunderstand, please clarify.

  • Review the computation of the Child Tax Credit to see whether the correct amount was computed, and
  • Verify the amount reported on the IRS Letter 6419.

The full amount of the Child Tax Credit is not reported on the 2021 1040 Federal tax return, only the net amount after applying the advance payments.

If you can view the entire 2021 1040 Federal tax return at Tax Tools / Print Center, you will see Line 12 of Federal Schedule 8812 which computes the total Child Tax Credit.

Do you believe that the IRS Letter 6419 is incorrect?  If so, I would compare the amount reported on IRS Letter 6419 to the Advance Child Tax Credit payments that you received.

Research the monthly IRS deposits to your bank account during the months of July through December of 2021 to confirm that the IRS is correctly reporting your Advance Child Tax Credit payments.
