Because you either indicated that child was age over the age of 16 or that the child provided over one-half of their own income or the child did not live with you for over 6 months of the year.

Go back and check your entries.  If they are correct and still getting the Other Dependent Credit, delete the dependent and re-enter.

If you have been claiming the Child Tax Credit for this child in the past and this year you're getting the Other Dependent Credit, the most common reason is that your child turned 17 during the year. Once your child turns 17, they no longer qualify for the Child Tax Credit.

If your child is 16 or younger, check your entries to make sure your child meets the other tests for the Child Tax Credit:

    - your child's relationship is son, daughter, sibling, half-sibling, step-child, step-sibling, foster child, niece, nephew, or grandchild

    - your child lived with you for more than 6 months of the year

    - your child didn't provide more than half of their own support

    - your child has a valid Social Security number that is valid for employment in the US

If your child was born or died in 2024 and lived with you all the time they were alive, choose that they lived with you all year.
