Work for California company but live in Indiana. I need to travel to California from time to time, Can I deduct travel expense in tax return?

Are you an employee? Then no, although most companies reimburse their employees for the expense under "an accountable plan" so they don't have to report the reimbursement as income.

 

The deduction for nearly all unreimbursed employee business expenses was eliminated in the Tax Cut and Jobs Act of 2017.

 

If you are self-employed and filing a Schedule C, then certainly you can deduct these expenses as travel expenses on Schedule C.
