My parents paid for my year of college but I paid for my textbooks. I am a dependent and they claim me as such. Who files the 1098T on their taxes. Is it them or me or both of us.

Since you are being claimed as a dependent then only the parents can claim the education expenses, Form 1098-T, on their tax return.

Whoever claims the student claims the credit. They can use your expenses if needed, to get the full $4,000 of tuition expenses.

     Q. Who files the 1098T on their taxes. Is it them or me or both of us?

    A. Them and only them.

If there is an amount in box 5 of your 1098-T and the amount in  box 1 does not exceed  box 5, by more  than $4000,  reply back for more info.
