My daughter has received a 1098-T all four years of college, and block 1 and 4 have always included a $$ amount. This final year, the block1 has no $$ amount but block 4 does have a $$ amount. Anyone have an explanation why scholarship money was used for tuitin, etc., but nothing was placed in block 1?

Do you really mean box 4  (Adjustments made for a prior year) or are you asking about box 5 (Scholarships or grants)?

If box 5, the usual explanation is that the school didn't match the payment credit year to the receipt of the scholarship.  This situation is covered in Pub 970. You may treat the box 5 amount as being applied to the tuition paid, the previous year (as long as you didn't claim it for a tax break in the previous year).
