1099-Q total is higher than 1098-T due to distribution made in Dec 2023 that is recevied by university in Jan 2024 and NOT reported in 1098-T
Hi,
My 2023 1099-Q reports a distribution that was made in Dec 22, 2023. However, per my university, it did not get the distribution until Jan 2, 2024. As a result, in 1098-T I got from my university for 2023, it does NOT show that distribution.
Thus, my 1099-Q total is higher than 1098-T total, and TurboTax increases my owned amounts (both Fed and state taxes) by substantial amount.
How can I fix this problem? That is:
- Contact my 529 plan and ask them to update 1099-Q to report Dec 22, 2023 distribution in 2024 1099-Q?
- Contact my university and ask them to update 2023 1098-T to include distribution that they marked as received in 2024 in 2023?
- Other options to handle this timing issue.
