Why would this be taxable if box 5 is lower, not sure if I am entering it right.

You seem to be talking about a Form 1098-T, not 1099-T. There is no Form 1099-T.

In the figures that you posted, box 5 is much higher than box 1, not lower. Did you omit a decimal point or enter extra digits? If what you posted here is what you entered in TurboTax, that's why some of it is taxable. Check your entries in TurboTax.

The tag below your question says you are using TurboTax Free Edition. You cannot claim education expenses (Form 1098-T) in Free Edition. You would have to upgrade to TurboTax Deluxe.
