Question

Although my name is not on my son's 1098-E form for his student loan, I have been making interest payments toward his loan as cosigner. Am I able to deduct the payments?

If you are liable for the loan as a co-signer you can deduct the interest up to $2,500.

A. Yes, if he is your dependent or was your dependent at the time the loan money was used to pay for school. Yo can take deduction because you paid the interest and were legally obligated to pay (you co-signed)
