I completed my fifth year of college and TurboTax is giving me the American Opportunity Credit. Since I am not eligible how do I opt out in TurboTax?

It's not clear that you are ineligible for the AOTC. It depends on what "completed my fifth year of college" means.  There are two "4 year" rules. The first says that you (and/or your parents) can only claim the AOTC 4 times. The 2nd rule says you must not have completed 4 years of post secondary education on 12-31-22. In simple terms this means you haven't received a degree.  Just being in school a 5th year doesn't disqualify you.

If you still think you don't qualify, go through the entire education interview until you reach a screen titled "Your Education Expenses Summary".  Click edit next to the student's name. That should take you to a screen “Here’s your Education Summary”. Click edit next to “Education Information”. Review all you answers, particularly the "4 times" and "4 years" questions.
