Question

Any amounts for K-12 Education Deduction results in a decreased state refund for Minnesota? In the past, if we paid for education expenses it increased our refund amount.

I think turbotax is bugged when it comes to this section of the K-12 Education Expenses for Qualified Children for Minnesota.

So basically for me paying for my own children's education's expenses, I get a decreased refund amount?

If I enter 0 for everything, then my refund stays the same. I don't understand how a credit would cause less of a refund. Something is broken here.

Minnesota does allow a deduction for education expenses for students in private and public schools. The deduction should not increase your tax, or course.

Is it possible that when you look at the refund meter in TurboTax that is says you owe money, so when you enter the deduction the amount you owe is reduced, but you are reading it as a reduction of your refund?
