Are college dorm room costs deductible if the University requires all Freshmen to live in on campus College housing? (paid via a student loan and not a 529)

He is a full-time student living in a campus dorm room. The University's website says the following "Entering freshman and transfer students having earned fewer than 30 undergraduate college-level credits are required to reside in university housing." He meets the criteria but most things I read say about paying the Room & Board with a 529 fund. His was paid from a student loan we took out ($3,741 R&B).

Nope, it is not deductible and does not qualify for an educational credit.  Sorry.
