Question

Can I claim continuing education expenses? Such as paying out of pocket for supervision for my LICSW?

The Tax Act of 2017 removed employee business expenses as a deduction on your federal tax return.  If you are an employee of someone else you can no longer deduct those on your federal return.

If you work for yourself then you can claim any licensing expenses as a business expense.

Some states still allow employee business expenses to be deducted on your state tax return.  TurboTax will have you enter the expenses regardless and make sure you get a credit if your state does so.
