Can I claim my Daughter's (Whom I am claiming as dependent) College Tuition Expenses on my Tax Return, even when she files her own return?

I am claiming my daughter (Aged 19 yrs) as a dependent on my return. She also files her own return due to Dividends accruing on her account.

We paid her College Tuition for which she got 1098-T. If I file 1098-T on my return we get the American Opportunity credit of $1000.

My concern is, can I claim her 1098-T on my return (where she is listed as a dependent) even though she files her own Tax Return?

Thank you,

Yes, you can claim it. The fact that she files her own return, does not mean that she is not your dependent. She would have to indicate that she is being claimed on her own return.

Is it possible for my Dependent daughter to claim 1098-T on her own taxes? If so, would it not be possible for me to claim her 1098-T on my return?
