Certain classes require a significant amount of medical equipment be purchased. Can these items be deducted and where can I apply them?

Did you receive a 1098-T for your tuition?

Yes, I did. however, although these materials were purchased through the school, they were not noted on any tax forms.

That's okay, not all of your education expenses are or have to be listed on your 1098-T. As long as they qualify as an expense you may deduct them. Select this link for some examples on what is deductible: https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/2976047-what-are-examples-of-education-expenses

Yes, if you had expenses that were purchased solely for your education, you may be able to deduct them. After you enter your 1098-T, use the steps below to enter any of your qualifying expenses. See below for more information on what can be claimed as an education expense.

To Enter your Expenses:

1. Select "Federal Taxes" at the top of the page

2. Select the "Deductions & Credits" sub-tab

3. Scroll down to "Education Expenses" and select "Show More"

4. Select "Start" next to "Expenses and Scholarships (Form 1098-T)"

5. Select "Edit" next to your name

6. Continue until your reach the "Education Summary" page

7. Select "Edit" next to "Other Education Expenses"

8. Choose the appropriate category for each expense and then enter it into the corresponding box
