Question

Can I deduct unused tuition? My son was enrolled in a 501c3 preschool but we decided not to go. We paid a cancel fee of $1,260 & did not receive service. Can I deduct it?

We enrolled in Jan 2022 and decided to pull him out before he started. Because we cancelled late they charged us 1 months tuition. We never received any services... can I treat this as a Charitable Contribution since it is a 501c3?

No.

 

As this is cancellation fee for unused services, it does not qualify as a charitable donation even if the school is a non-profit organization.
