Can I file my own taxes even though I'm being claimed as a dependent on FASFA?

I'm trying to fill out my FASFA for the 2022-2023 year and I'm at the part where a parent claims you as a dependent since I'm under 24yrs of age. Am I still able to file my own taxes even though my mother tecnically has to claim me as a dependent? How does this work if I can still file my own taxes or if I can't file my own taxes, will I have to file with her? Just curious because I filed my 1098-T with her for this year for 2021, but didn't file my 1099-INT as well as one more for my mortgage I believe (forget what it's called) for 2021. Figured I'd just wait to file everything next year along with my 2022 taxes.

As a dependent of your parents, you only have to file your own tax return if your income exceeds certain levels as indicated in this TurboTax Help topic.

If you have worked as an employee and had taxes withheld, you can file a tax return even if you are below the level in order to have a refund of taxes withheld.

You will need to indicate on your tax return that you can be claimed as a dependent by someone else.

Yes, you can still file your tax return even if you are being claimed as a dependent.  You only need to indicate on your tax return that you can be claimed as a dependent.
