Can i get the american opportunity credit if my father is paying the tuition?

I am not a dependent , filling my own tax , my parent is not qualify because of high income

Yes.  Although the general rule, in taxes, is that you must be the one making the payment, to get the deduction, there is an exception for education.

 

If you don't qualify as a dependent (not just that aren't be claimed as one), you may claim the AOTC.  That assume you aren't disqualified by the "other kicker".

 

 A full time unmarried student, under age 24, even if you don't qualify as a dependent, is only eligible for the refundable portion of the American Opportunity Credit if he supports himself by working (unless he's an orphan). You cannot be supporting yourself on parental support, 529 plans or student loans & grants.  It is usually best if the parent claims that credit.
