Question

Can I get the child tax credit if I did not have any income this past year? We have 2 children and are only living off of student loans/savings while in medical school.

Sorry--no.

The tax laws changed for child-related credits and are much less generous for 2022.   If you did not have income from working you cannot get any refundable child-related credits.

For tax year 2022 you must have at least $2,500 or earned income from work to be eligible for the Child Tax Crédit.
