Can I put laptop expense in required school supply expenses since we needed to purchase each kid a laptop for distance learning?

Since the laptop was required to be able to attend classes, it can be considered a qualified education expense for the purpose of the American Opportunity Tax Credit.  It is also a qualified education expense for the Lifetime Learning Credit, but only if it was required to be purchased from the school.
