Can I put that I paid out pocket for college when I went in 2024?

I went to a trade school and paid for it out of pocket and idk if I can put that on my taxes and if I can how do I do that?

    Trade school tuition is eligible for the tuition credit, if the school is an "eligible institution".

    Enter your school at the link below, to see if it's on the dept. of education list.

    Rule of thumb: if you have to ask, your school is not an eligible institution.

    If they issue a form 1098-T then they are eligible.

     

    I find this tool easier to use, even though they say it's for 529 plans (it's the same list)

    If you are a dependent, your parents claim the tuition credit, not you.
