Can I remove the Hope tax credit from my student form so my sister can claim it?

    I think you mean you have an education tax credit on your tax return and you want to know if you can transfer it to your sister. If so, no, you would be the only one who can get an education tax credit for your education expenses, unless you qualified as someone else's tax dependent, then they would be the only one who could claim the credit.

    The person who claims the student, as a dependent. is the person  who can claim the tuition credit. The Hope Cred was eliminated decades ago. It was replaced by the American Opportunity  Credit (AOTC or AOC).

     

    Even if your sister paid your tuition, she cannot claim the AOC if you are not her dependent.
