Parents have a dependent child and received 1098-T under the child's name. The child has no other income except a small scholarship on 1098-T. Could parents use child 1098-T in their return. And can the child no need to file his/her return

If you are claiming the child as a dependent on your tax return, then only you can claim the education expenses and the Form 1098-T on your return for the student.  The student cannot claim any education expenses on their tax return, if they are required to file.

Thanks. In this case, for this year, does the child need to file tax since the child has no income to report. The child will be claimed as dependent in parent's return.

If the child did not receive any type of taxable income in 2023 there is no need for them to file a 2023 tax return.
